What’s West Kent CTC all about?

We are a recreational cycling club celebrating its centenary in 2024, with groups that organise cycle rides and occasional tours, sometimes abroad.  There are nine local groups, located in Sevenoaks, Bexleyheath, Orpington, Gravesend, Rochester, Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells and Wrotham.

Each local group organises their own rides, mostly weekly.  The length/duration of the rides are set by the local group and are usually half-day rides.  Longer day rides occur weekly (Sunday), organised by the “Hardriders”, and monthly (Thursdays) are run by the “Weekdays” group.

All groups combine, for events during the year, such as the Anniversary Ride of our founding, a Hill Climb, a social off-road course and a Christmas Luncheon. Also, the Gravesend group organises a popular Grimpeur (hilly ride) and spring Hop Garden rides under Audax UK rules.

No ride is complete without at least one café stop – usually independent cafés in garden centres, country parks, National Trust properties etc.  All are carefully taste tested!

Most local groups arrange short tours yearly, staying at Youth Hostels or hotels.  The “Cantii Way” and the “Cuckoo Trail” make good local tours.  Tours across the Channel are also popular. A district winter weekend tour is arranged for the club by one of the local groups.

Recent current activities in club can be seen on Facebook at “Cycling West Kent” and in the in house magazine, “Winged Words”, published six times a year.

You are welcome to join a local group on a ride to try us out.  Just contact the appropriate Group Secretary whose details are found on our website.

We are a friendly club who know a bit about cycling, as we are currently celebrating our centenary year.
